Susan Patricia LaCasse, age 68, passed away on Thursday September 1, 2022, at her home in Lake Linden.
She was born January 2, 1954 at Saint Joseph’s hospital in Hancock.
She attended Lake Linden Hubbell High School, graduating in 1972, and completed some undergraduate coursework at Northern Michigan University in the 70’s and Michigan Technical University in the 2000’s.
She held many roles in her life as a homemaker, a bookkeeper and administrative assistant, caregiver for disabled adults and end of life caretaker to those in hospice.
Before she retired, she managed the Canterbury House, a safe cultural home for the families of international students and faculty at MTU.
She lived most of her life in the UP, returning to her beloved Lake Linden after raising her children downstate.
She enjoyed traveling, games, golfing, gardening, baking, reading, arts and crafts, politics, powwows, music, concerts–but most of all–she loved spending time with her grandchildren and other cherished family members and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents Roland Raymond and Virginia Violet LaCasse; sister Linda Lou Crispino, brother Kevin Mark LaCasse; many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She leaves behind her son Matthew (Lisa) Felt, daughter Melissa (John) Smiley; grandchildren John Smiley IV and Ava Smiley, step-grandchildren Crystal Spagnotti, Heather Spagnotti, and Allan Spagnotti, and great step-grandchildren Abel Bennison and Owen Bennison; sister Donna (Jim) Richards, brother Terry LaCasse, brother Peter (Dawn) LaCasse, sister Tammy Wahtola, brother Timmy LaCasse, brother Tommy LaCasse, sister-in-law DeeDee LaCasse, along with a host of cherished aunts, nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
