Edwin Ernest Laru
Edwin Ernest Laru, a resident of Clawson, passed away into God’s loving arms on January 6, 2023. He was 79 years old. Known to his friends and family as Ed, he was born to his parents Charles Yalmer Laru and Sylvia (Lahnala) Laru on April 13, 1943 in Painesdale, Michigan.
Ed attended Jeffers High School in Painesdale before finishing his education at Kimball High School in Royal Oak. He then joined the United States Army, serving his country until his honorable discharge.
Ed met the woman who was the love of his life, Shirley Jean Vincent, and they were married January 23, 1965 at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Clawson, where they made their home.
Ed was talented with machinery and had a long and storied career as a repair technician at the Dodge Truck plant on Mound Road in Warren for 35 years. Ed loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them; one of his favorite activities was playing horseshoes.
Ed was the most patient, loving, kind, and humble man you could meet. He will never be forgotten by those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Ed leaves many to mourn his passing and to celebrate his life; his loving wife, Shirley Laru and his son, Dave Laru. He is also survived by his sister, Donna (Francis) Destrampe; nieces and nephews, Tiina (Roger) Puska, and her three daughters and families, Frank (Sue) Destrampe, and his children, Mike and Kayla, Pam (Dan) Taavola, and their children, Brandon, and Danielle and her family, and James Destrampe. Also, Harold and Elsie Vincent from New York, Ben and Dolores Edgington, and their daughters Debbie and Toni from Maryland, and Lyle Vincent; brothers-in-law, Robert Vincent, and his daughters, Sherri Peters, and Robbie Brooks from Michigan, Teo and Mary Babun from Miami Florida, and their children, Scott and Paula, John and Jamie , and Victoria Babun; his deceased special sister-in-law, Rose and Robert Kari, and their family of seven, Dave and Kerstie Kari, Deb and Joe Bossenberger, Dean and Kathy Kari, Darcy and Scott McDowell, Dan Kari, Dawn Kari, Daron and Brandy Kari and all of their families and children.
Ed also leaves behind two feathered friends of 23 years, cockatiels, Precious and Desiree. Ed didn’t have any grandchildren, but he had 10 grand birds, as well as several neighbors in Clawson and in Mass City that were very special to him.
Ed is preceded in death by his brother, Carlo Laru; nephew, Jeff Laru; and parents-in-law, Harold and Helen Vincent whom he all loved dearly.
