Kathy M. Lekvin

Kathy M. Lekvin, a person who was much loved by her family and the many, many friends that she had made over the years, passed away on December 31, 2022, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born on September 18, 1960, to Robert J. and Karen J. Sluga in Milwaukee, WI, and grew up in Independence, a small town located on the western side of the state.

After graduating from high school, she attended the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire where she met her future husband, Brent.

Brent and Kathy were married on May 30, 1981. A few days after their wedding they moved to Houston, Texas where they began their new life together. After Houston, they lived in Milwaukee, Chicago, Iowa City, Reading, England, Seoul, Korea, and for the last nearly 24 years in Houghton. They had two children, Nathan, and Vance.

Kathy had many interests including cooking, gardening, yoga, travel, but perhaps the most important of all was the making artistic objects with clay. She was a member of the Copper Country Community Arts Center (CCCAC) for many years and was one of the key volunteers that helped keep the clay studio there operating and open to other like-minded individuals.

No funeral services are planned. If a celebration of life is organized at some future date, family and friends will be notified at that time. In lieu of flowers and other gifts, those interested are encouraged to make contributions as a memorial to her to the CCCAC in Hancock, Michigan.
