Nancy J. Korpinen-Deyo

On February 5, 2023 Nancy Jane Korpinen-Deyo passed away in the presences of her loving family and wonderful hospice caretakers.

Nancy was born on February 21, 1948, to Alma and Edward Korpinen at Portage Hospital in Hancock, MI. She grew up on her family’s farm on Pontiac Road where she learned the work ethic than transcended throughout her life. Upon graduating from Hancock High School 1966 she married a military man which began her adventure. The first station was the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse, which she filled numerous photo albums with picture of the lighthouse, along with storms coming off Lake Superior. This led her and the family to Munising where she raised four kids and spent the better part of her life there.

After raising her children she began her second career as a nurse’s aide at Tender Care in Munising for 25 plus years. This occupation suited her giving soul as she was employee of the month too many times to count. Nancy was always had a creative mindset whether it was knitting gloves and hats for us, making quilts, mending/hemming our clothes. She also took great pride in volunteering with the American Legion, Coast Guard Auxiliary, and many others ways over the years.

One of Nancy’s deepest affinities was the beach, where we would spend many summers from nearly sunrise to sunset. The other was yard sales, she never went to one that she didn’t find a treasure or five. Along with a pastie that would give most a run for their money. Even though she left the Keweenaw her heart never did. Nancy was SISU through and through!

Nancy is preceded in death by her father Edward Korpinen, mother Alma Korpinen, brother Paul, and great uncle Axel Neimi.

She is survived by her sons David and Kim Haggard (Twin Lake,Mi), Brian Haggard (Green Cove Springs,Fl), daughter Patricia LaCoy (Alanson, Mi) and son William Deyo (Alanson,Mi), sister Sherri and Kevin Moss (Colorado Springs,CO), Neil Korpinen (Hancock, Mi). Grandsons David and Cole, Granddaughter Madelyn LaCoy.
