Robert Weber

Robert James Weber, age 77, formerly of Houghton but recently a resident of Port Orange, Florida, passed away on February 2, 2023.

The son of H. William (Bill) and Marion (Iavelli) Weber of Houghton, Bob was preceded in death by his parents and by Richard D. (Rick), the youngest of four brothers. He is survived by two older brothers, H. W. (Hank) and John M. (Jack), their wives Sharon (Lanctot) and Melba (Niva), Aunt Carroll (Weber) and Uncle Bob Lutz, his brothers’ children and grandchildren, and a number of cousins.

Bob attended St. Ignatius Loyola Grade School, Houghton High School, and Michigan Technological University in Houghton before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1967. The following year he moved to Greenwich Village in New York City, where he lived and worked in college textbook and social science publishing for 47 years, 30 of them as a free-lance editor. He retired and moved to Florida near his brother Jack in 2015 where he adapted to his changing situation cleverly and cheerfully.

Bob cherished spending time with family members, young and old, as often as possible. He thoroughly enjoyed attending his Port Orange Library Book Club and his Friday Night Dinner Bunch. Generous with his time and talent, he never forgot a friend and visited by phone with people around the world. Bob will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
