Theresa M. Sikkila Aunio

She leaves her daughter, Paula Storm of Sophia, NC, and two grandchildren; Carson of Sophia, NC, Allison Coponen and husband Kyle of Chassell, MI. One brother; Wilfred Sikkila and wife Phyllis of New Ipswich, NH. One sister; Ruth Gedenberg and husband Leonard of Greer, SC. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William and Helena Rosengren of Centerville, MA, Eleanor Sikkila of Greer, SC, Judy Aunio of Leominster, MA, Vesa Aunio of Leominster, MA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was united in marriage to her beloved husband Rainer in 1967, and was predeceased by him in 2015. She is also predeceased by her brothers; Bernhardt, Arvid, and Edwin, sisters; Aili and Martha, and her son-in-law Kurt.

Theresa was born in Covington, MI, the daughter of the late Edward and Amalia Sikkila. She graduated from L’Anse High School and Northern Michigan College. Theresa worked for 40+ years in various medical positions, and then retired from Children’s Medical Services in 2004. Theresa enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, crafting, and traveling. Theresa was very outgoing and to her, strangers were just friends she hadn’t met yet. She was a member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church of High Point, NC. Throughout her life, she loved the Lord and was always participating in faith discussions.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 12, 2023, at the Apostolic Lutheran Church of High Point, NC. Visitation will be held from 2-2:45 p.m., prior to the funeral service. The funeral service and committal will be held at 3 p.m. Dinner will be held following the service in the fellowship hall. Interment will be Monday, February 13, 2023, at the Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
