Jane M. (Tuohimaa) Lake

Jane M. “Tuohimaa” Lake, 66, a resident of Hancock passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2023, following an apparent heart attack.

She was born on March 11, 1956, in Hancock, a daughter of the late Robert and Marie (Romppainen) Tuohimaa. Jane was raised in the Coles Creek area and was a graduate of the Jeffers High School.

Jane was united in marriage to Alan Johnson and the couple had a daughter before parting ways. She was united in marriage to Mitch Lake and the couple had two daughters before parting as friends.

Jane then attended Soumi College where she received her Criminal Justice Degree. Ms. Lake was able to retire from the Baraga Maximum Correctional Facility.

She has also worked locally as an advertising salesperson for WMPL & WCCY radio stations, waitressed at Gino’s restaurant and part-time at the Shottle Bop. Jane was an avid Detroit Red Wings fan and enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her sister Cathy Tuohimaa and her brother Dan Tuohimaa.

Surviving are: Her daughters: Michelle Johnson of Houghton, Pamela Oakes of Houghton, Holly Lake of Hancock. Her grandchildren: Aurora, Melodie, Myla, Waylon, Lakelyn, Dani holly and Christian.

Her siblings: Clyde (Joanne) Tuohimaa of Linwood, WA, Julie (David) Laban of Oskar Bay, Dianne (Dan) Jamison of Atlantic Mine. Her brother-in-law, Charles Huhta of the Houghton Canal. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A time to remember Jane and share stories will be held Friday, March 31, 2023, from 6 to 8 pm at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Hancock Chapel.

A celebration of Jane’s life will be held later this year with burial in the Oskar Cemetery.
