Garry L. Short

Garry L. Short, age 68, of Rapid River, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at UP Health Systems Hospital in Marquette.

Garry was born on February 22, 1955, in Newberry, the son of Frank and Betty (Blonde) Short. Garry and his family moved around the Upper Peninsula for most of his childhood.

On September 21, 1985, Garry was united in marriage to the former Barbara Saari and together they spent many wonderful years. Garry and Barb moved around before settling in Duluth, MN, for 25 years while Garry worked in commercial floor covering with Contract Tile and Carpet. They later returned back to the Upper Peninsula and settled in Rapid River.

Garry was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish, ski, camp, boat, snowmobile, and do many other outdoor activities. He also was a member of the Wisconsin Carpenters Union and the local birthday club. He will be truly missed by so many.

Garry is survived by his loving wife, Barb, siblings Frank (Trina) Short and Jack (Deb) Short, siblings-in-law Maria Saari, Don Saari, Pat (Bruce) Racine, Dave (Colleen) Saari, Colleen Saari, Rick (Cheryl) Saari, Dan (Liz) Bowling, and Steve (Denise) Saari, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Garry was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Betty, parents-in-law Ronald and Edna Saari, his son Garry Lee Short, siblings-in-law Ron Saari, Rita Saari, Robert (Patty) Saari, and Kenny Saari.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 2:30 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid River. Services honoring Garry will follow visitation at 3:30 PM with Pastor Stephen Gauger officiating.

A luncheon will follow in the church hall. A celebration of life will also be held at a later date to be announced in Twin Lakes, Michigan.
