Michael Peter Karinen
Michael Peter “Buzz” Karinen, 70, of Houghton, MI, passed away on May 20, 2023, in Houghton at the Omega House. Michael was born on the 22nd of February 1953, in Detroit, Michigan to Robert and Joyce June (Kauppila) Karinen.
He graduated from Cass Technological High School in Detroit at the age of 16 and went on to attend Michigan Technological University. He started his career with the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI, and ended his career there as a Tool and Die maker. After 30 years he retired and moved to the Houghton area.
Michael enjoyed golfing, college hockey and living his 20 years of retirement in the Copper Country.
He was preceded in death by his father and his fur babies Juneau and Koyuk.
Michael is survived by his mother Joyce of Brighton, siblings Colleen of Houghton, Audrey (Michael) Hamlin of Westland, Mark (Holly) of Novi, Robert (Amy) of Commerce, Ethel (Patrick) Kluesner of Howell and Jason (Brenda) of Davisburg.
He is also survived by nieces and nephews Christy, Andrew, Kelly, Cory, Kyle, Kayleigh, Robbie, Eric, Eli, Joey and Annabella. Many other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank the caring staff and doctors at the Omega House, Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital, UP Health Systems of Hancock and Marquette.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a later date.
