Janet Marie Dragovich

Petoskey — Janet Marie Dragovich (Normand), 90, formerly of the Houghton area, died Wednesday afternoon, May 10, 2023, at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.

Janet was born on Quincy Hill on September 23, 1932, the daughter of Hubert and Domenica (Barda) Normand.

Janet grew up in the Isle Royale Mill Location and graduated from Houghton High School. Janet then graduated from Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1953 as a Registered Nurse.

Janet spent 12 years on the nursing staff at the Fisher Body Division of General Motors in Livonia, Michigan. She also worked as general duty and Charge Nurse at Garden City Osteopathic Hospital as well as Director of Nurses at Four Chaplains Nursing Home in Westland, Michigan. She was then a licensed Nursing Home Administrator in the State of Michigan, overseeing several nursing facilities and acting as a special consultant before her retirement in 1987.

On July 3, 1954, she married Clements (Clem) Dragovich at Saint Ignatius Loyola Church in Houghton. They lived in the Detroit area until 1987 when they moved back to the Houghton area, spending the winter months in Tucson, Arizona and then Laughlin, Nevada. Since 2019, Janet has resided in the Harbor Springs/Petoskey area.

Janet was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Chassell and was active in many different organizations through the years. She was also an active volunteer after her retirement.

Janet was preceded in death by her Husband Clem, Father Hubert, Mother Domenica and Brother Charles (Chuck) Normand.

Janet is survived by Sons Richard (Laurel) of Jenison, Michigan and Gerald (Melissa) of Harbor Springs, Michigan; Grandchildren Richard (Angela), Jennifer (Ryan) Treharne, Kristopher (Aubrey), Jay Powell, Brandon Irwin, Becky (BoB) Woronko and Amanda Irwin; 12 great-grandchildren; special niece Sue (Frank) Destrampe; special nephew David (Sheri) Normand; her Uncle Dominic Barda; several cousins and friends.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Chassell, with Fr. Ben Hasse as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
