Shirley A. Kahler
Tapiola — Shirley A. (Torro) Kahler, 86, formerly of Tapiola, passed away suddenly on May 24, 2023, surrounded by family.
Shirley was born on December 20, 1936, in Painesdale to Charles and Laila (Karna) Torro. She married Donald Kahler on March 29, 1958.
Shirley was involved in the Painesdale Church and the Dollie Senior Citizen Center. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone she met.
She enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren baking, playing Nerf guns and games. She was an avid animal lover; she loved her grandpups dearly, especially Amos.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna (Al) Bemke of Elsie, MI, Bonnie Kahler Kromberg of Metamora, MI; five grandchildren Chris (Krista) Bemke, Jen Bemke, Sam (Shelagh) Kromberg, Beau Kromberg and Molly Kromberg; four great-grandchildren Sam and Avery Kromberg and Ashlyn and Ryker Bemke; one sister Beverly (Jim) Butcher, one brother-in-law John Cline; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald of 60 years, parents, four sisters, one brother and son-in-law Bob Kromberg.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. August 5, 2023, at Albert Paine Methodist Church in Painesdale. A luncheon will be held following the service. Burial will follow at the South Range Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
