Nancy Rae (Lemantine) Bowman

Mass City — Nancy Rae (Lemantine) Bowman, 71, of Mass City, entered eternal life on July 24, 2023.

She was born in January 1952 in Highland Park, MI to Raymond and Francis “Claudine” Lemantine. As a young girl, the family resided in Mass City, moved west and settled in California, then eventually returned to their home town where she has lived ever since.

After completing high school, Nancy worked for an electronics plant making micro-semiconductors in California; after her return to Mass City she spent 19 years working for the Head Start program, and then retired in 2019 after working for several years at Copper Country Mental Health’s residential settings in Ontonagon and L’Anse.

Nancy was married to Larry Bowman and with him had two sons, Jim and Timothy. After their divorce, she met her life partner of 32 years, Victor Wettberg and they resided in Mass City.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mass City and was actively involved in volunteer activities including Wednesday Bible Adventures program, monthly Community Meals, and she served on the Church Council as well as the Parish Board of Northern Lights Lutheran Parish. She also served as an advocate in Ontonagon County’s Victims Service Unit, and spent many years on the Greenland Township Board of Review and as a poll worker in Greenland Township.

She loved to travel to see her three grandchildren, the lights of her life, whenever possible. She loved “road trips”, including those with the other joy of her life, Elsa, their chocolate lab.

She is survived by her partner, Victor Wettberg, her son, Jim (Bethany) Bowman of Kansas City Missouri and their three children, Jade, Cori, and Memphis. Nancy was preceded in death by her son, Tim and her parents, Ray and Claudine.

The O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home of Hancock is assisting with the arrangements. Funeral Services will be held at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mass City on Saturday, August 19, 2023, with Pastor Micheal Laakko to officiate. Visitation will precede the service from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. Time of the funeral. A light luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall followed by interment at the Greenland Cemetery.
