Lynda Lee Sengstock Griffith
Charlotte — Lynda (Lyn) Lee Sengstock Griffith passed September 5, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was 79 years old.
Lyn was born in Tallahassee, Florida and raised by her grandparents in the village of Hardwood, Michigan. At 14, she moved from Hardwood to Iron Mountain, Michigan, to live with her mother and attend high school. She met her future husband, Bill, in 1959 as a sophomore in high school, and they dated seriously until their marriage on January 20, 1962. At the time, Bill was a United States Air Force Airman 3rd Class stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas, where their daughter Lisa was born. They remained in Little Rock until August of 1964, then transferring to Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi, where their son Troy was born. Lyn and the children moved to Gwinn, Michigan, when, in August 1965, Bill was assigned to the Tan Son Nhut Air Force Base in Saigon, Vietnam, and they remained there until September 1966. Upon Bill’s discharge from the Air Force in 1967, they moved from the Kincheloe Air Force Base in Sault Saint Marie, Michigan, to Hancock, Michigan, where Bill began working for IBM Corporation as a Field Service Engineer. An IBM transfer to Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1982 began the longest permanent residence of their married life.
In Charlotte, Lyn was initially employed as an office manager and receptionist for a doctor of psychology practice. Later in the 80’s, she began working at Charlotte Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat as an appointment scheduler, working her way up to Appointment Department Supervisor and eventually retiring to enjoy her life with Bill, who had since retired. During this time, she thoroughly enjoyed her hobby of growing and caring for many plants and flowers with which she filled her home, yard, and deck.
In 2011, Lyn was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. After exploring many of their bucket list items for the next seven years, Lyn moved into the Memory Care Unit at Aldersgate Retirement Village in Charlotte.
Lyn is preceded in death by her parents, Marion Rasmussen Johnson and William Sengstock, and her grandparents, William and Utella Rasmussen, who raised her. She is survived by her husband, Bill Griffith; their two children, Lisa Griffith Keehn (Juanita Martinez) and Troy Griffith (Joy Barnes-Griffith); grandchildren Taylor Griffith Tarvin (Blake), Casey Griffith, and Lindsey Griffith; and two great-grandchildren, Piper and Cooper Tarvin.
