Robert V. Langseth

CALUMET — The Rev. Robert Vern Langseth of Calumet, Michigan, received the breath of God on February 3, 1933 and upon his death on October 17, 2023, returned the breath of life to his creator.

“Pastor Bob” was born in Glyndon, MN, to Hans and Martha Langseth. Robert graduated from Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN. He received his bachelor of divinity degree from Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, IL.

Robert met the love of his life, Deloris Tweten, and they were married in June 1954. Deloris is a retired teacher of elementary students.

Pastor Bob was involved with numerous organizations at local, regional, state, national and international levels. Bob was instrumental in helping with the approval/creation of the Keweenaw National Historic Park. One of his most-liked components of the KNHP was the Keweenaw Heritage Center at St. Anne’s. Bob and Deloris made many mission trips to Tanzania, Africa, and helped to expand the Kisarawe Lutheran Junior Seminary. There is now a three-story dormitory named in his honor at the seminary.

Bob’s passion for service to Christ and community provided him the opportunity to speak before many government agencies including multiple testimonials before the US House of Representatives. He received many awards in recognition of this volunteerism and written works.

Bob and Deloris enjoyed traveling with their young family, and they continued to travel after retirement. Teaching their grandkids the finer arts of outdoor camping, making popcorn balls and making hand-pulled taffy were favorite pastimes. He also loved going to school and community events to loudly cheer for the participants and show his support.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents Hans and Martha, his brothers: Gene, Gordon, and James. His children Ronda and Kirk. Also preceding him in death were Betty Dotzenrod (significant other – Karl) and daughter-in-law Julie (Todd).

He is survived by wife Deloris and children: Debra (Saverna Park, MD); Karl (Argusville, ND); Kevin (Grand Rapids, MI); Faith (Jepppie) Wilson (Monahans, TX); and Todd (Antigo, WI). Bob also has six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held for Robert at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Faith Lutheran Church located in Calumet, Michigan. Visitation will take place at the church from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday October 21, 2023. A luncheon will follow the service at the Keweenaw Heritage Center in the former St. Anne’s Church located in Calumet, Michigan.
