Noel Hanson

CALUMET – Noel Kenneth Hanson of Calumet, MI, (formerly of Scandia, MN) died at his home on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. Noel (aka “Uncle Boom” to his nieces and nephews) was born in St. Paul, MN to Ken and Alma (Ione) Hanson on July 7, 1957. He graduated from Austin High School, attended college at Stevens Point, and graduate school at Michigan Tech. While at Michigan Tech, he fell in love with the Upper Peninsula. This is where he would eventually build his life and home. Noel spent his years teaching at Hancock Middle School. He also coached track at both Hancock and Dollar Bay, which was his one true passion. He filled his free-time with hunting, cheering on the Wisconsin Badger football team, curling, and spending as much time as he could with his nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. Noel made a lasting impact on everyone he met and will be deeply missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sisters Paula (Don) Angell and Amy (Mitch) Johnson, nephews and nieces Craig (Stacy Faivre) Angell, Kate (John) Dulaney, Kyle (Danielle) Johnson, and Carrie (Jason) Leaders. Grand-nephews and nieces Liam Leaders, Charlie and McKenzie Dulaney, and Evie and Peter Johnson as well as countless other family members and friends.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, November 10 at 3 p.m. at Elim Lutheran Church in Scandia, MN and on Saturday, November 11 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Calumet Curling Club in Calumet, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family will be given to the Calumet Curling Club and the Dollar Bay High School Track Team.
