Ronald A. Hughes

INDIAN ROCKS BEACH, FL – Hughes, Ronald A., of Indian Rocks Beach FL, (formerly of Oak Park, CA) passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at the age of 74. He was born October 18, 1949, in Detroit, MI, to Evan and Eleanor (Komula) Hughes, and grew up in Houghton, MI, in the UP. After graduating from high school, he attended Michigan Technological University, in Houghton, MI. Ron served in the US Navy from 1970-1973 aboard the USS Long Beach and discovered winters without snow. After serving in the Navy, he attended law school (78) and then obtained an LLM in taxation. For many years he traveled all over the world negotiating contracts for companies in the defense and telecommunications industries before joining Hughes & Hughes, LLP.

On August 31, 1973, he married Sharon Coverly, his wife of 50 years. After marrying in Mt. Pleasant, MI, they moved to LA where they had lived until September 2022. They have practiced law together since 2003, in Woodland Hills, CA.

Ron is predeceased by his parents, his in-laws Bernard and Thelma Coverly, and his sister-in-law Linda Coverly. He is survived by his son Lt.Col. Robinson C.L. Hughes, USAF, and wife Jennifer (Horton), two grandchildren Abigail, and Robinson Hughes of Bonaire, GA. He is also survived by his sister Kathleen (Craig Varady) Dunne, Royal Oak, MI, and brother, David (Lennon) Hughes of Hancock, MI.; brother-in-law Stephen (Cheryl) Coverly of Grand Junction, CO, and nieces Telo Dunne, Bethany Coverly, Heather (Luke) Carrington, and nephews Ian (Andie)Hughes and Alex Hughes: a grand niece Violet Wy1ffles; and by his CA family cousin Cheryl Eppink, and the Robert and Sara Amstutz family.

Ron was an avid golfer playing since he was seven years old. Ron enjoyed golfing regularly with his circle of friend in CA, GA and FL. He also enjoyed marshaling at professional golf tournaments, particularly at Riviera Country Club in LA, which he did for several years.

Ron was a devoted Christian and read the bible and Daily Bread each morning. In 2004 he participated in a church plant and helped to establish Living Oaks Community Church in Newbury Park CA. He served on the Elder Board for many years and was so thankful to have been part of the ministry.
