William Martin Malinowski

William Martin Malinowski, fondly known as Bill, was born on August 17, 1942, in Binghamton, NY. He departed this life on November 18, 2023, in Rockford, MI, leaving a legacy of love, kindness, and thoughtfulness that will forever be cherished by those who knew him.

Bill was a devoted family man, survived by his wife of 58 years, Marcia, and his daughter, Lisa, married to Harold Sommer. His sister Suzanne, married to Del Cimino. He was a beloved grandfather to Taylor, Anna, Toralf Sommer, and Kimberly Wheeler, married to Derek. Bill also had the joy of being a great-grandfather to Rory, Breslin, and Elijah.

In 1965, Bill earned a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Michigan Tech, laying the foundation for an illustrious career. He showcased his entrepreneurial spirit by starting his own engineering company in Hancock, MI. In 1987, his business acumen led to a successful sale of his company to URS in Grand Rapids. Bill served as the Vice President of URS until his retirement, leaving an indelible mark on the industry and his colleagues.

Bill had a generous spirit and a heart full of love for his family. He treasured spending time with his grandchildren, never missing a basketball game, and always cheering them on from the sidelines. His love for golf lasted many years, with Bill being a part of a golf league that brought him much joy and camaraderie.

The family will be celebrating his life this summer on the shores of Lake Superior.
