Patricia Anttila

KALAMAZOO, MI — In Loving Memory of Patricia Anttila.

Patricia Anttila, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away on January 11, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on January 1, 1934, Patricia’s life was defined by her love for family and her unwavering commitment to equality and positive change.

Patricia was not only an advocate for equality but also a devoted volunteer, dedicating her time generously to causes she held dear. Wherever there was a need, she willingly volunteered her services. She was an active member of St. Peter and Paul Church in Greenland, where she served as a 4-H Leader and actively supported her chosen political party. Patricia’s commitment to the community extended to her role as Greenland Township Clerk, where she performed her responsibilities with diligence and formed lasting connections with her colleagues.

Following her graduation from Mass-Greenland High School in 1951, Patricia embarked on a lifelong journey with her beloved husband, Jim Anttila. They married on December 29, 1951, and their loving partnership lasted for 66 years until his passing in 2017. Together, they built a life grounded in love, shared values, and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. They raised their five children in Greenland, instilling in them the same values of love and compassion that defined their own lives. In 1985, they embarked on a new adventure by moving to Florida, where they continued to navigate life’s joys and challenges as a loving couple. After relocating to Florida, her dedication to volunteer work continued as she became a valuable member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, aiding those in need.

Patricia is survived by her loving children: Mary Jane Anttila (William Sorenson), Jim Anttila (Michele), Julie Anttila, Michelle Anttila-Shafron (Chris Malenzi), and Angel Pattison (Michael).

She is further survived by grandchildren Jaysen Shaffer (Andrew Wagner), Sean McConahay (Katie), Sara Tynan (Joe), Joe Anttila, Leah Anttila (Jeff Urban), Laurel Chafy (Chris), Adam Baldwin, Bryan Baldwin, Danielle Strong, Kristy White-Brock (Cory), Michael White, and Michelle Stanley (Jay), brothers-in-law Arnold “Manny” Anttila and Ronald “Rusty” (Geri) Anttila, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

Patricia’s legacy further endures through her cherished great-grandchildren: Kenyon, Dominic, Kai, Paisley, Liam, Michael Jr., Astrid, Emma, Asa, Avery Jack, Noah, Layne, and Olympia. Her love and wisdom will remain etched in their hearts, nurturing future generations.

Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Jim, parents Marion and Margaret Morse, sister and brother-in-law Marilyn and Jerry Hokkanen, and brother Joseph “Mac” Morse, son-in-law Damian Shafron, and grandson Michael Shafron, each leaving behind their unique legacies.

A joint celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ontonagon. After the service, a luncheon at the church will offer friends and family the opportunity to come together, share memories, and celebrate the remarkable lives of both Patricia and Jim, who walked hand in hand through life’s journey.

The family wishes to thank the dedicated nurses and caregivers of Gulfside Hospice in New Port Richey, FL and Harmony Care Hospice of Portage, MI for the loving care they provided during Patricia’s last days and St. Catherine of Siena for providing spiritual support.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or St Vincent de Paul in Patricia’s honor, supporting her mission of promoting positive change and creating a better world. Patricia’s dedication to love, equality, and compassion will continue to inspire us all.
