Leonore E. Gherna

LAURIUM — Leonore E. Gherna, 88, a resident of Laurium and of Portage Pointe passed away peacefully on Friday, February 23, 2024.

She was born on April 17, 1935 in Phoenix to Joseph and Rosanne (Stukel) Sever. She attended the local schools.

Lee worked as a waitress for many years at the Bonton and retiring from John’s Family Restaurant where she was known as “General Lee.”

She was an avid bowler at Millers Lanes. Bingo was her game and for her relaxation you could find her at her puzzle table or sitting down doing her word searches with the game show network on in the background.

She was a member of the VFW Post #3900 Ladies Auxiliary where she loved collecting for the many fundraisers and loved helping out wherever she could.

She is preceded in death by Joseph and Rosanna Sever, her siblings Joseph, Earl, Aloysius, George, Ardell, Lillian, Charlotte, and her daughter Ann Marie Matuszewski.

She is survived by her daughters Charmaine (Jon) Urbanski and Marilyn (Mike) Panijan and son in law Ken Matuszewski

Her grandkids Jesse (Holly) Grathoff, Mary (Brian Stoup) Grathoff, John (Dawn) Grathoff, Joseph Panijan, David Matuszewski, Sara Hale, Marc Panijan, Justin Urbanski, Ryan Urbanski

Her great grandkids Skylar (Michael) Lancour and Gillian Grathoff

Her siblings: Darriel (Margaret) Sever, Darlene Harris, and Kenneth Sever.

Along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and her special nursing home friend/sister, Penny. She had many friends who will miss her and will be missed by all.

Visitation will take place from 4 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet. A vigil from the VFW Post #3900 Ladies Auxiliary will take place at 5:45 p.m., with funeral service to follow on Saturday, March 2, 2024 with Father Gracious Pulimootil to officiate.

Burial in Lake View Cemetery and a celebration of life will take place in the spring.
