Donald Rule

HOUGHTON — Donald W. Rule, 88, a resident of the Bluff’s Senior Living Community in Houghton and former Hancock resident passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024, at his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born on July 31, 1935, in Houghton, MI, a son of the late William J. and Violet (Dymond) Rule. Don was raised on Quincy Hill and attended the local schools.

Mr. Rule was a veteran having served with the United States Army in Germany during the Korean War.

On June 17, 2000, Don was united in marriage to the former Sally North. The couple had made their home in Hancock until moving to the Bluff’s Senior Living Community in 2023.

Following his time in the Army Don returned to the Copper Country and had worked for White Pine Copper Mine until the mine closed. He then began a career working for Quincy Development Corporation as the maintenance person until his retirement.

Mr. Rule was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in South Range. Don was always an active person he enjoyed carpentry projects and working in the yard. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings. But he loved to watch all junior and High School hockey and little league baseball. He spent many an hour at the kitchen window watching every sport that happened at Laurn Grove.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his brothers Robert and Fred and his sister Janet Raffaelli; his stepson Mike and stepdaughters: Roxanne and Mary Ann.

Surviving are: His wife, Sally Rule of Houghton. His son, Mark (Charlee) Rule of Beaumont, TX. Three grandchildren: Brett, Allyn and Jax, 5 stepchildren. Several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service for Don will be held later this year in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock where military honors will also be held.
