Joyce Karinen
BRIGHTON, MI — Joyce June Karinen, 91, resident of Brighton Michigan, passed away March 2, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Livonia, MI. She was born February 20, 1933 in Painesdale, MI, daughter to Arnold Kauppila and Amanda Bollard.
Joyce graduated on June 2, 1950 from Jeffers High School in Painesdale, MI. One year later, June 8, 1951, she married the love of her life Robert Eric Karinen in South Range.
Joyce loved her lord, spending many hours reading her bible and dedicating time to her bible study groups, as well as attending church regularly.
Joyce loved to swim! Every summer she would swim in Lake Superior at the family camp in Little America, in Liminga. Joyce also loved to travel. She and Bob traveled to many countries, including Spain, France, Finland, Yugoslavia, and the Canary Islands, as well as spending time on a few cruises.
Joyce made hundreds of jars of jam and jelly. Thimbleberry, blueberry and other berries picked by Bob and Michael.
Joyce is survived by Colleen Caudle of Houghton, MI, Audrey (Michael) Hamlin of Westland, MI, Mark (Holly) of Novi, MI & Florida. Robert (Amy) of Commerce, MI, Ethel (Patrick) Kluesner of Howell MI, and Jason (Brenda) of Davisburg, MI. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded by her husband Robert, and her son Michael.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
