Kris Haralson

GWINN — Kris Haralson, 64, of Gwinn, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at his home.

He was born August 7, 1959, in Laurium, a son of the late Harold “Whitey” and Gladys (Kristo) Haralson. He was raised in Tamarack City and was a 1977 graduate of Dollar Bay High School.

Kris worked with his father in a sawmill as a teenager, worked with stained glass for his sister at Shade Tree Studios and served as a park ranger for the Petoskey State Park before relocating to Virginia where he worked at Morrison Security in Washington, D.C. He moved to Gwinn with Marge in 1984 where he gained employment at Greater North Orthodontics Lab before purchasing the company and operating it until his retirement in 2015.

He was a life member of the NRA and served as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, watching TV, and playing the lottery. Above all, he loved to spend time with his family, kids, and grandkids.

Kris is survived by his bride, Margaret M. (Kroll) Haralson of Gwinn, whom he married on July 5, 1986 in Gwinn; children, Jake Haralson of Gwinn and Kaileena (Luke) McCloskey of Muskegon, MI; grandchildren, Anthony, Aryana Rose, Jake and Ezra; sisters, Peggy (George) Hardy of Virginia and Penny Kristo of Petoskey, MI; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Michael; sister, Judy; and brother-in-law, Ed Scott.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 from noon to 2 p.m. at Canale-Gwinn Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Sebastian Opong officiating. A luncheon will follow the service in the funeral home. Internment will take place in Maple Hill Cemetery in Lake Linden in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society of Gwinn or Gwinn Care Clinic.
