Karol Hyypio-Borkowski

She was born to Karl and Evelyn Hyypio on January 10, 1954, in Houghton, Michigan. She grew up in a rural area of the Copper Country where she graduated from Chassell High School and went on the attend and graduate from Michigan Technological University in Houghton.

Upon graduation she joined the Dupont Company where she held various positions over 15 years.

In 1987 Karol met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Borkowski and in 1989 they married. They lived in Wilmington, DE and Greensboro, NC before settling into the newly developed Lakewood Ranch, FL community in 2000.

Karol loved to travel and explore new places. For the last 25 years of Karol’s professional career she worked for WL Gore & Associates, Inc. allowing her to do just that. During her last years at Gore she was responsible for negotiating supply contracts with major medical group purchasing organizations.

Following her retirement in 2017 Karol and her husband enjoyed both national and international travel.

Karol leaves behind her husband, Bob, stepdaughters, Kelly Borkowski and Elizabeth Palma (Gabriel Palma, grandchild), cousins Pauline and Don Stratton, numerous nieces and nephews, her beloved cat, Bella Octavia, and numerous bead-weaving friends.

Memorial services will be scheduled and at held at a later date.
