Dennis Korpi

Dennis W. Korpi, age 76, formerly from Chassell, passed away on April 14, 2025, on Kauai, where he has lived for the past 23 years.

Dennis was the son of Frederick and Lydia (Komula) Korpi of Chassell. He graduated from Chassell High in 1967 and served in the U.S. Army from 1968-71 as a General’s Aide.

In October 1972, he married the former Vicki Randell, her parents Robert and Mary Ann Randell of Dollar Bay.

Den was the night manager of the Big Boy in Houghton before accepting a position at a private dormitory at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1974, and on to be the food service director at Kansas University in Lawrence from 1975-79.

Den’s dream was to be the owner/operator of a restaurant which he accomplished in 1979 by buying Broncos restaurant in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After realizing how little time you had to spend doing all the outdoor activities that he and his wife loved, they sold in 1984 and moved to California.

He worked for the same company as previously at a California State-Hayward dorm.

After so many years working on college campuses, he decided a change was due, and accepted a position as the dietary director of the Masonic Home for Adults in Union City.

His dedication to his elders with his kindness and listening ear exemplified his daily life.

Den was a lifetime member of BPOE 309, Colorado Springs, an auxiliary member of the Chassell VFW, and a California Freemason with Acacia Lodge No. 243 since 1992.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Dennis is survived by: his wife, Vicki of Kalaheo, Kauai; brother, Larry (Tonja) of Canton, Ohio; three nephews; two great nephews; and four great nieces.

Garden Island Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

A celebration of Den’s life will be on Kauai in May.
