Mary Anne Lexson

HOUGHTON CANAL — Mary Anne Lexson, 89, a resident of the Houghton Canal, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the UP-Health System – Marquette hospital.
She was born on March 26, 1936, in Hancock, a daughter of the late William and Sara (Knuutila) White. Mary Anne was raised in Dollar Bay and attended the Dollar Bay School.
On Nov. 24, 1962, she was united in marriage to David Lexson and the couple had made their home on the Houghton Canal. On Jan. 31, 2001, David preceded Mary Anne in death.
Mrs. Lexson worked as a Nurse’s Aide and a Patient Activities Coordinator for 28 years at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock until her retirement.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting and all kinds of arts and crafts in her younger days, even leading her children’s 4-H group. More recently, she enjoyed feeding the birds and deer that would visit her each day. Mary Anne loved her family more than anything and they were all blessed they had her as a positive, happy-natured role model. She will forever be remembered for her infectious laugh.
Preceding her in death were her husband, David Lexson; her daughter, Sandy Ahola; her parents; her brother, William White; her sister, Vera Hazel; and her sons-in-law, Earl Johnson and Eugene Kanto.
Surviving are: her children, Wendy Johnson of Rindge, New Hampshire, Linda (Dawna) Wareham of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Judy Kanto of Bessmer, Cindy (Peter) Autio of Pelkie, Laura (John) Voght of Marquette, Tammy Lexson of the Houghton Canal, Willie (Melanie Thayer) Lexson of the Houghton Canal; her son-in-law, Ricky Ahola of Houghton; her 17 grandchildren: Shawn Johnson, Terry Johnson, Keith Johnson, Stefanie Baril, Shawna Bastian, Samuel Wareham, Amy Ahola, Philip Ahola, Amber Tuttle, Nathan Ahola, Erica Bates, Kris Kanto, Geno Kanto, Gina Kanto, Travis Autio, Howard Voght, and Walter Voght; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her sister, Carol Santti of Wixom, Michigan; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A time to remember Mary Anne will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Hancock Chapel.
