Edward Paavola

BALTIC — Edward “E.” Paavola, 72, a resident of Baltic, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Canal View – Houghton County, where he had been a resident patient.
He was born on Dec. 23, 1952, in Detroit, a son of the late Robert and Dolores (Onkalo) Paavola.
Ed was raised in Baltic Location and Trimountain. He was a graduate of the Houghton High School with the class of 1971. Edward also attended Ferris State University and Northern Michigan University and received an auto body mechanic certificate. Mr. Paavola was a veteran, having served with the United States Army 1st Air Cavalry Infantry during the Vietnam War. Following Vietnam, Ed had worked for several auto body repair shops in the area before beginning a career working for the U.S. Postal Service. Over his 20-year career delivering the mail on his route, the meanest, ugliest dogs were always glad to see him because he always had “Biscuits”.
He also would let everyone of his buddies know each year when the Sears and Roebuck catalogs would be delivered and how many duffle bags of mail he had to deliver to Wadsworth Hall.
On March 22, 1975, he was united in marriage to the former Deborah Carlson.
Mr. Paavola was a member of Ranger’s Post No. 6165 VFW of South Range, he enjoyed time outdoors hunting, fishing, and spending time visiting with family and friends. His big heart showed as he would visit with the elderly and care for any animal.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and his son, Erik. Surviving are: his wife, Debbie Paavola of Baltic; his children, Daniel Paavola of Ishpeming and Joseph (Tasha) Paavola of Baltic; his grandchildren, Gwyneth, Lillian, Evelyn, Etta, Jeremiah and Rhianne; his siblings, Robert “Butch” (Debbie) Paavola of Baltic, Jayne (Terry Neault) Paavola-Neault of Swedetown Location, Paul (Debbie) Paavola of Baltic, Julie (John Shulstad) Paavola-Shulstad of Green Bay; several nieces and nephews; many cousins and friends.
A funeral service for Ed will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Mt. View Chapel of South Range. Burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery of South Range, where military honors will be conducted by the Copper Country Veterans Association.
Friends may call on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 11 a.m. until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Mt. View Chapel of South Range.
