HOUGHTON — Riley Ashton Herlevich, 22, of Dodgeville, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, at the UP Health System – Marquette Hospital following a short illness.
Riley was born on March 14, 2003, in Huntington, West Virginia, the son of Jon and Cheryl (Bredekamp) Herlevich of Atlantic Mine. He was a graduate of Peters Township High School in McMurray, Pennsylvania. Prior to this, Riley studied at Archbishop McNicholas High School and Guardian Angels School in Cincinnati, Ohio, and at Moraine Elementary in Northville, Michigan.
Riley was a disabled veteran who served in the U.S. Navy as an E-6 Initial Maintenance Technician at Tinker A.F.B., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After the Navy, Riley relocated to the U.P. to help family.
Riley enjoyed interacting with the local veterans, fishing, exercising, being an amazing hockey goalie, and recently, he was working towards spending more time traveling and hanging out with his cat Sammy.
Riley is survived by his parents, Cheryl and Jon; his siblings, Eliot Herlevich of Atlantic Mine, Paige Herlevich-Riede and Rick Riede of Portsmouth, Virginia; his grandparents, Marge and David Bredekamp of Noblesville, Indiana, Mary Moilanen (Herlevich) of Hubbell and Paul Moilanen (deceased), and Jon Herlevich of Dodgeville. Riley was also very fond of his close aunts and uncles, David and Irma Bredekamp of Missouri, Lori Bredekamp of Noblesville, and Dawn Herlevich and Chris Asiala of Rochester, Michigan.
The Herlevich family wants to thank the numerous friends and family who instantly went into prayer for Riley, and to the parishioners at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, the Northern Michigan University campus ministry, and the Brenham Presbyterian Church in Brenham, Texas. We also have a very special place in our hearts for the many medical professionals who helped Riley at home, in Hancock, during the life flight, and in Marquette – they have each walked in our grief. Most importantly, we wish to thank God for our time with Riley, may he continue to watch after him.
