Barbara Hosking

Barbara Mary Hosking Frank, age 84, of Mentor, Ohio, passed away Sept. 11, 2023.

Barbara was born Nov. 13, 1938, in Calumet. She was a devoted mother to three children and a caring and fun-loving grandmother of seven.

For over 50 years, Barbara was a member of St. John Vianney Church in Mentor.

Barbara graduated from the University of Michigan in 1960 and was a member of the Alpha Zi Delta Sorority where she was an active member for the past 63 years.

Quick with a joke and loving smile, Barbara made lifelong friends in Mentor’s Pinegate community. Known as “Aunt Barb” to this extended family, she watched many Pinegate children grow up to celebrate birthdays, graduations, and weddings. Barb also loved her bridge group, investment club, and decades as a volunteer usher at the Cleveland Playhouse.

Never missing a Michigan vs. Ohio State football game, Barb rooted hard for her alma mater always decked out in her maze and blue. At parties surrounded by her Buckeye-loving friends, Barb proudly cheered on her Wolverines despite the never-ending ribbing from the Ohio State faithful. Loyalty was never an issue for Barb! Like a true UM supporter, Barb raised all three of her “Ohio” children to be Michigan fans and was thrilled when her granddaughter, Elley Frank, was accepted and subsequently graduated from that “school up north”. And, of course, the family’s one and only dog was lovingly named Bo.

Barbara was loved by many in the Mentor and Willoughby communities. She could quickly make a friend and those relationships lasted her entire life.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Ruby Hosking.

Surviving Barbara are her children, Brian (Karen) Frank, Timothy (Joni) Frank, and Linda (T.J.) McCreight; grandchildren, Michael Frank, Ellen Frank, Nicholas Frank, Noah Frank, Nate Frank, Matthew McCreight, and Maggie McCreight; and cousins, Terry and Mal Murphy and Pat Roche.

The family will bury Barb next to her mother and father at the family plots in Calumet, Michigan at Lake View Cemetery on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 11 a.m.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the Eileen Kelley Memorial Preschool Scholarship Fund, C/O Starting Point, 4600 Euclid Ave. Suite #500, Cleveland, OH. 44103. www.starting-point.org.
