HANCOCK — Barbara A. Hoy, 83, a former longtime resident of Greenville, Michigan, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024, at Canal View in Hancock. Barb was born in Belding, Michigan, on Feb. 19, 1941, to Lawrence and Luella (Rittersdorf) Heether.Â
Upon graduation from Belding High School, Barb attended cosmetology school and became a licensed beautician. Much of Barb’s life was spent with her customers at her in-home beauty shop, Country Curl, volunteering with church camp and 4-H, creating art and doing crafts, and watching and feeding
the birds.Â
Upon retirement, Barb and husband Wilson moved to Hancock, where Barb worked part-time at the Einerlei and enjoyed gardening and ceramics.
A devoted wife and loving mother, Barb is survived by her children, daughters, Elizabeth Hoy (Jacque Smith) of Laurium and Margaret Landsparger (Robert) of Houghton; and son, Joseph Hoy (Lisa Steed) of Gowen, Michigan.Â
Grandma will be dearly missed by grandchildren, Taylor Schermerhorn (Trenton), and Nash and Emerson Landsparger; and by her loyal cat companion, Bear.Â
She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Hoy, who passed away on May 27, 2024; her parents; sister, Mary Lober (Pete); and brothers, Robert Hieftje (Shirley) and William Heether
(Ann).
Continuing their journey side-by-side, a memorial service, for Barb and Wilson, will be held at the First Congregational Church in Greenville on Saturday, July 12, 2025, with visitation at 10 a.m., service at 11 a.m., and luncheon to follow. The final resting place for Barb and Wilson will be the Liminga Cemetery in Houghton County. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the animal shelter of your choosing, in their honor.
