Eunice Sten

Sept. 8, 1943 - April 15, 2025

OSKAR — Eunice J. Sten, 81, a resident of Oskar, passed away at her home on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

She was born on Sept. 8, 1943, in Trimountain, a daughter of the late Arthur and Irene (Narhi) Paavola. Eunice was raised in Tapiola and attended the John A. Doelle School.

Eunice had worked for the Tapiola Co-op, Pheiffers Corner Store, the Holiday Gas Station in L’Anse and the Ramada Inn in Houghton.

In 1991, she was united in marriage to Howard Sten and the couple had made their home in Oskar.  On Sept. 8, 2021, Howard preceded Eunice in death.

Mrs. Sten enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, bird watching, camping, riding motorcycles with Howard, and spending time with her family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; her son, James Bishop; her step-daughter and her husband, Wanda and Bill Dwyer; her great granddaughter, Brantley Aten; and her brothers, Joseph Paavola and Gerald Paavola.

Surviving are her children, Lori (Bryan) Lindemann, Michael Bishop, Daniel (Fay) Bishop, and Richard Sten; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; her brothers and sisters, Gene (JoAnn) Paavola, Jack (Donna) Paavola, David (Catherine) Paavola, Paul (Patty) Paavola, Rose Marie (John) Hoevel, Barbara Stephens; her sister-in-law, Donna Paavola; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service for Euince will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2025, at the Oskar Cemetery with Pastor Jesse Aho to officiate.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorial donations be given to the Copper Country Human Society or the Omega House in Houghton.
