William Daavettila
April 28, 1952 - June 8, 2025
CHASSELL — William A. “Bill” Daavettila, 73, passed away peacefully at home on June 8, 2025. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Bill was born on April 28, 1952, in Laurium, to Ethel (Bezotte) and Arnold Daavettila. He grew up in Ahmeek.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, stationed in Germany.
He was a carpenter and worked in the Copper Country his whole life. He was much loved by his family and many friends. He moved to the Sturgeon River, where he built his home and welcomed everyone: people, birds and deer (but not squirrels). The river was a favorite place for family gatherings.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his brothers, John, Robert (Mary Jean) and Joe; and his sister Karen (Bryan). He was much loved by his nieces and nephews, Michelle (Meghan), Thomas, James (Ramon), Nick (Kristine), John, Elizabeth, David (Sarah) and Anna (Logan); grandnephews, Issac, Joshua, Brady, and Kellin. He is also survived by his former wife, Ginger Saari; and special friend, Margaret Thornton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Anne’s in Chassell on Saturday, June 14, at 11 a.m. with visitation with the family one hour prior.
Bill embraced his Catholic faith.
The family would like to thank Ryan Funeral Home, the many sisters from St. Anne’s Parish who came to visit and numerous health care workers.
