Chester Verran

July 2, 1948 - July 21, 2025

TOIVOLA — Chester A. Verran Jr., 77, a resident of Toivola, passed away Monday, July 21, 2025, at his home with his family by his side following a lengthy illness.

He was born on July 2, 1948, in Hancock, a son of the late Chester A. and Dorothy (Sleeman) Verran.

Chester was raised in Trimountain and was a graduate of the Jeffers High School with the class of 1966. Following high school, Chester worked at the Red Jacket Mine for a short time. He also attended Wisconsin Indian Technological School in Superior, Wisconsin, for a few years.

Mr. Verran was united in marriage to Theresa Richard while raising two children, the couple moved to make their home in Superior, Wisconsin. A while after Theresa and Chester parted, he was united in marriage to the former Starr Fitch on March 27, 1982. The couple resided in Superior area and since 1998 had made their home in Toivola. On Jan. 25, 2015, Starr preceded Chester in death.

Chester had worked for several manufacturing companies in the Superior area and retired from Cuda Corporation locally.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, woodworking projects and spending time with his family. While residing in Superior, he was active with the Clear Creek Muzzell Loading Club and locally was a former member of the Toivola Volunteer Fire Department.

Preceding him in death were the love of his life and wife, Starr; his parents; his brother, Sam (Nancy) Verran; his brothers-in-law, Ray Karppinen and Randy Fitch; and his niece. Tina Strack.

Surviving are his children, Lisa (Russell) Harvey, Tom Verran and Andy (Delene) Verran; his grandchildren, Chris (Cariann) Kinn, Ashley Kinn, Richard Verran, Novelyn Verran, and MiKenna Verran; his great-grandchildren, Logan, Mara, and Aiden; his sister, Dorothy Karppinen; his brothers, Ed (Pam) Verran and Donny (Sue) Verran; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A time to remember Chester and share stories will be held Sunday, July 27, 2025, from 1-3 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Mt. View Chapel of South Range. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery at a later time.
