Evelyn Lescelius

CHASSELL — Evelyn J. Lescelius, 85, a resident of Chassell, passed away at her home in Chassell following an apparent heart attack.

She was born on Jan. 13, 1940, in Keweenaw Bay, a daughter of the late Andrew and Anna (Komula) Lescelius. As a child, she moved with her family to Chassell and was a graduate of the Chassell High School. She then attended Michigan Technological University, where she received a business administration degree and then she attended Northern Michigan University to receive an elementary education degree.

Ms. Lescelius began a career working for University Microfilms in Ann Arbor before moving to Chicago, to work as an office manager for an Architecture-Engineering firm. She also worked as an elementary School Teacher with the Powers School District, then returned to the Chicago area working for various businesses and traveling around the U.S., to Europe, and to South America.

Evelyn returned to the Chassell area to help care for her mother until her passing. Ms. Lescelius was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell and enjoyed being active with various community organizations.

Preceding Evelyn in death were her parents; and her brother, Donald A. Lescelius.

Surviving are her brothers, Roger (Nadine) Lescelius and Norman (Grace) Lescelius; her sister, Marie Lescelius; her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Lescelius; numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and great-grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins and many friends.

A memorial service for Evelyn will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell with Rev. Soren Schmidt to officiate. Burial will be in the Keweenaw Bay Cemetery.
