Jayne Harvey

Nov. 20, 1950 - July 22, 2025

Jayne Carol Harvey of Calumet, passed away on July 22, 2025, at Aspirus in Wausau, Wisconsin.

Jayne was born on Nov. 20, 1950, in Marquette, to parents Lowell and Emma “Dolly” Besander. Growing up, Jayne attended both Sacred Heart School in Calumet and Calumet Public Schools. She married John Paavilainen and went on to have two daughters, Donna and Tammy.

Jayne worked as the business owner of the L&L most of her life, in addition to being a CNA. She and her mom, Dolly, owned and operated the L&L Bar together until Dolly’s passing in May of 1993. At that time, Donna stepped up to become part business owner with her mom. Today, this marks three generations of women and 61 years of owning the business.

She worked numerous other jobs in the community as well throughout her life. One that stood out the most was cleaning. Jayne loved to clean and everyone knew it. Her patrons affectionately dubbed her, “The Clorox Queen.” Over the years, she and friend, Judy Maronen, started a small side gig of their own cleaning businesses, which brought her a lot of joy.

Jayne had many hobbies that she enjoyed – fishing, cooking, and of course her pet cats and dogs. She had a special fondness for animals and loved to donate to charity to help pets in need.

Jayne is preceded in death by her parents, Lowell and Dolly; her husband, and the love of her life, Robert “RJ” Harvey; brother. Andrew Besander; aunt, Virginia Miller; uncle, William Lompre; and her very special friend, Phil Baranowski, whom she was fortunate enough to find a second love with before his passing. She is also preceded in death by her special dog, Bear, and her granddog, Daphne White.

Jayne is survived by her daughters, Donna (Rickey) White and Tammy (Robert) Fountaine; grandchildren, Emily Fountaine, James (Melissa) White, and Rickey White; great grandchildren, Blaze, Xander, Pheonix, Ellowynn, Sofia and Isaiah White; her three sisters, Jean Harmala of Ishpeming, Jill Nelson of Calumet, and Laurel Rosemergy of Green Bay, Wisconsin; and a brother, Lowell “Tubby” Besander of Ishpeming; her loving cat, Tommy; and two granddogs, Raymond and Rocco White. She is also survived by numerous nieces including special niece, Amanda Baril, nephews, cousins, many special friends, and a loving community of patrons who will deeply miss her.
