Michael Kolb

Michael Robert Kolb (Mike) age 75, of Eagle River, Michigan, passed away on June 25, 2025, at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids following a brief illness, with family by his side.

Born on Dec. 7, 1949, in Laurium, Mike was the son of John and Irene Kolb. He graduated from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in 1968 and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1973.

He married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Baril on July 8, 1972.

Following his service, Mike worked as a heavy equipment operator with the Houghton County Road Commission for over 35 years.

Mike was a man known for his kindness, quiet strength, and dedication to his family and friends. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Mike’s faith brought him strength and he was honored to act an as an altar server for the Keweenaw Catholic Community. 

For over 25 years, he was an active and proud member of the Lake Linden Lions Club, where many fondly remember him flipping pancakes every Fourth of July.

Life in Eagle River brought Mike deep joy. Whether he was sharing stories with loved ones, lending a hand to anyone in need, or savoring a good Manhattan, he lived with warmth, humor, and humility. He found happiness in the simple moments–visiting with family, chatting with neighbors, and being present for those he loved most.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene Kolb; in-laws, Roland and Martha Baril; his brother, John Kolb; his sister, Mary Kay Cole; grandson, Spencer Mueller; and brother-in-laws, Ronald Jutila and Jim Stevens; nephew, Robert Kolb; and niece, Linda Cole. 

He is survived by his wife, Wanda; his daughters, Sarah (Lee) Marcotte and Katie (Bob Mueller) Kolb; and his beloved grandchildren, Mason and Nicholas Marcotte and Harper Mueller. He is also survived by his sisters, Janet Stevens and Patty (Jim) Saari; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives he touched.

A visitation will be held at Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden on Monday, July 7, from 6-8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ahmeek on Tuesday, July 8, at 11 a.m., with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Eagle River.

Mike’s legacy is one of love, generosity, hard work, and quiet dignity. He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
