Michael Sloan

Mr. Michael Stuart Sloan of Toney, Alabama, passed away on Friday at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 84.

Michael was an intelligent man with many talents. He held a master’s degree in accounting but spent his career in the steel industry in Chicago/Philadelphia before moving to the Huntsville area. After his retirement, he worked in the hotel industry as a desk clerk until the last few weeks of his life. 

His outgoing personality and love for people ensured that he never met a stranger. He had a sincere care for others and faithfully donated blood for over 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his  wife, Lenita Cardin Sloan; his parents, Paul and Laverne Sloan; his sister, Paula Banfield; and he was also preceded in death by a sister as a child.

Surviving family members include his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Ron Comer; his step-son, Tim Atchley; his grandchildren, Corey (who he referred to as “My Boy”) and Amy Schauder, Ronnie Comer, Timothy and Melissa Atchley; his great-grandchildren, Alisa Schauder and Kellen Roberts; his two brothers, Ed Sloan and Dick Sloan; and a host of other family members and friends who loved him.

Michael will be remembered for his love for the people around him, easily considering everyone his family, his kind heart, and for being willing to share advice. This Red Budweiser’s for you!

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on July 24 at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
