Helen Stimac

DODGEVILLE — Helen Joan Stimac, 99, of Dodgeville, passed away peacefully on Aug. 25, 2025, after a short residence at Canal View. 

Helen was born on April 4, 1926, in Dodgeville, to parents John and Mary (Pleshe) Gasperich of Dodgeville.

Helen graduated from Houghton High School in 1944. She was united in marriage to William (Bill) Joseph Stimac Sr. on Aug. 26, 1950, in

Atlantic Mine. She was employed by some of the older businesses in the area, Newberry’s, B&P Bootery, O’Donell-Seamans, Joffees and lastly Jim’s Foodmart for 23 years from which she retired in May of 1990.

She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Atlantic Mine and a member of the Altar Society until the church closed. For her remaining years she was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in South Range.

She was a proud Croation and a lifetime member of the Croatian Lodge No. 270 in Calumet-Ahmeek, where she held many positions on the leadership board throughout the years. From 1978-88, she and her husband Bill, owned Stimac’s Musicland in Copper City, where good times flowed and Polka Music was always abundant. She said they never made much money but made many great friends.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Gasperich; Bill, her husband of 49 years; sisters, Mary (Conrad) Muth, Veronica (George) Spolarich, Angie (Phil) Johnson, and Rose (Ken) Maki; brothers, John (Peggy) Gasperich and Sylvester Gasperich; and, nephew Jim Muth.

Helen is survived by her sons, Mark (Lisa Huuki) of Dodgeville, Randy (Linda) Grand Rapids, Minnesota, Bill Jr. (Cheryl) Lena, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, Valerie (Jacob) Bailey, Jeremy Stimac, Gabriel Stimac, Blaze Stimac, Brett Stimac, Sierra Stimac, Santana Stimac, Natalia Stimac; and great-granddaughter, Astrid Bailey. As well as nephews, Conrad (Pat) Muth, Gary (Dottie) Spolarich, Tom (Cheryl) Stimac, David (Diana) Stimac, Ken (Shannon) Johnson; and nieces, Theresa Hamlin, Geri (Dave) Koch, Barbara Ferguson, Vicki (Gordon) Hoyer, Darlene Walitalo, Linda (Les) Bramblett, Patti (Carl) Ellis, Carolyn Gasperich, Kathy Gasperich, Nancy Jarvis, Ann (Scott) Pratt and Frances Dion; and many great nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Sept. 5, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in South Range. The Rosary will be prayed at 8:50 a.m. and Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:10-11 a.m. Repass will be provided by Holy Family Parish after the Mass. The burial will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton at 2 p.m.
