Mary Morris

Feb. 4, 1934 - Aug. 9, 2025

Mary Lou Morris, age 91, of Howell, Michigan, passed away on Aug. 9, 2025.

She was born Feb. 4, 1934, in Highland Park, Michigan, to Emory Bishop and Malinda (Scherzer) Wickline. Mary Lou was the youngest of eight children, all have passed previously to this date. Jack Morris, her husband, passed away Jan. 1, 2016, after they had been married for 65 years. Mary Lou and Jack met in high school and they were inseparable, she was 15 and he was 16. They dated and that was it for both of them.

Jack was an orphan and lived with his two older brothers, and he ate all of his suppers with Mary Lou and her family. Jack and Mary Lou were married April 20, 1951, he was 18 and she was 17. In 1952, he was called to serve his country and went into the army. He was in the Korean War.

While Jack was gone, a son was born to them. Mary Lou moved in with her sister Bernice and her sister took care of Jack Jr. while Mary Lou worked a full time job. While Jack was away, Mary Lou had managed to purchase and helped complete the build of their first home in Novi, Michigan.

Jack Sr. had a severe heart attack at 33, and seven years later, the doctor said he needed to get out of the city and the problems of his job, so they moved to Trout Creek in the Upper Peninsula. They had a home built and purchased a small store on Bond Falls Flowage. Together, they rented cabins, boats, constructed campsites in the campground owned by the UPPCO.

In the winter months, they also had cross country ski trails. After 20 years, they decided to retire and built a home in Chassell. They loved their home there and their beautiful yard with all the fresh fruit and berries.

They lived in their home in Chassell for 20 years. After that time, Jack got sick again and this time his doctor advise that they move back downstate to be closer to family and Mary Lou could get help. They purchased a home in Howell.

Mary Lou is survived by her son, Jack Jr. (Yngrid); daughter, Suzanne (Pat) Macaluso; granddaughter, Lisa (Chris) Brewer and her daughters, Emily and Gretchen; granddaughter, Sara (Ben) Wallace and their sons, Greyson and Lucas; granddaughter, Brooke (Shawn) Morris; and granddaughter, Kirstin (Josh) Tymkew and their daughter, Jade.
