Ann Vanderlip

Nov. 7, 1941 - July 24, 2025

The Vanderlip family is saddened to announce the passing of Ann Marie Immonen Vanderlip.

Ann was born on Nov. 7, 1941, in Baltic, to parents Aileen Mattila and Albert Rickard. She grew up in Houghton with her stepfather, Felix Immonen. She got married in 1959 and later moved to Virginia with husband Bart Vanderlip.

Along with children Mark and Cheryl, the young family moved across the country to Newbury Park, California, in 1962, where Ann focused on raising the family. Later, Tim and Eric would join the growing family in Southern California.

To help support the family, Ann worked nights at Semtech making diodes. She went to school and got an associates degree in child development, got a degree in nurses aid, and later in life, Ann became a home health nurse and worked closely with people with special needs.

Family and her Finnish heritage was very important to Ann, and she enjoyed visiting extended family in Finland, and spending time with her nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

She enjoyed quilting, knitting and sewing and was part of the local quilting club. She also enjoyed baking, canning and cooking, but most of all sharing her creations with friends and family.

Ann passed away on July 24, 2025, surrounded by family.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; and brothers, Bobby, David, Stewart and Michael.

She is survived by her sister, Pauline Bussiere; sister-in-law, Nancy Immonen; children, Mark, Tim and Eric Vanderlip, Cheryl Zeller and their spouses; and grandkids, Jeremy, Elizabeth, Travis, Matthew, Amy, Michael, Jacob, Victoria and Hunter.

Her passing leaves heavy hearts among all that knew her and she will be greatly missed.
