Shirley Kallio

Shirley M. (Ron) Kallio, 91, a resident of Hancock, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Canal View — Houghton County, where she had been a resident patient for the past two years.
Shirley Mae Kallio (nee Heidtke, Rogge, Sohlden) was born December 8, 1933, and raised in Kingsford, Michigan, by her parents, Edward and Rosalee Heidtke.
She was proud of the years she spent working at the L’Anse Area Schools as Secretary to the Superintendent, but her greatest joy was definitely the family she raised with her first husband, Roger Rogge, at the Ford Forestry Center in Alberta, Michigan.
Shirley’s children and their friends recall the extra special birthday parties that she threw for her kids each year. Shirley’s children will never forget those parties as well as the phone calls on each birthday when she would sing Happy Birthday to them.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Diane (age 2), son-in-law, Dennis Martinac, and second husband, Robert Sohlden.
Shirley is survived by her devoted husband of fifteen years, Ronald Kallio; and children: Mike (Peggy Lauritsen) Rogge, Kay (Riley) McIntyre, Karen Rogge, Sharon Rogge Haapala; and grandchildren: David (Jessica Katz) Rogge, Sara Rogge, Thomas (Ronda Dowd) Martinac, Jennifer Martinac, and Elizabeth Haapala; and great-grandchildren: Tyler, Zachary, Carter, Cora, Joy, Allison, and Lex.
Also survived by Ron’s children: Keith Kallio, Jody (Kelly) Kallio, Gregory (Jen) Kallio, and Lisa (Todd) Markham.
The family wishes to thank Canal View for their excellent care.
