Robert Saarinen

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP — Robert Ronald Saarinen, 77, of Franklin Township on Quincy Hill, passed away at his home on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025, following a lengthy illness.

Bob was born on March 22, 1948, in Hancock to the late Oliver and Hilda (Maki) Saarinen and he attended local schools.

He served in the United States Army in Vietnam for two years from 1966-68.

He married Cheryl P. Kyro on July 18, 1969. She preceded him in death after 51 years together.

Bob was employed by Dollar Bay Linoleum and Tile as a tile and carpet installer. He later took care of his disabled son, Jerry, for over 18 years.

He was a charter member of the Quincy-Franklin-Hancock Township Fire department and enjoyed owning and working on vintage and hot rod cars and especially Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Besides his wife and parents, Bob was preceded in death by a son, Gerald; three brothers, Harold, Raymond, and Jerome; and a sister, Corrine Fountaine.

Bob is survived by a daughter, Deanna (Paul Coon) Saarinen-Coon; a son, Dale Saarinen; grandsons, Damien (Brooke) Goulette, Nicholas Weingarten, Luke Weingarten, and Hunter Saarinen; a great grandson, Connor Goulette; a special cat, Amber; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Private graveside services will be held on Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, in Section 13 of Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock with Pastor Aaron Gehrke of Saints Peter & Paul Lutheran Church to officiate. There will be no visitation.
