TAPIOLA — Angeline Lyttinen (née Colombe), 75, of Tapiola, passed away at her home on Nov. 23, 2025. She was born on May 29, 1950, in Chassell, to Cecilia (Beauchamp) and Lawrence Colombe.
Angeline grew up in Houghton County and graduated from Houghton High School. She was a lifelong and devoted member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church of Chassell, and her faith remained a source of strength throughout her life.
On March 14, 1970, she married Melvyn Lyttinen, and together they built a home and family filled with love and laughter.
Angeline worked as a teacher’s aide supporting special needs children. She took great pride in helping to teach sign language, offering patience, encouragement, and understanding to the students.
She also worked as a cook at the Tapiola Diner. At home, Angeline was a dedicated full-time mother and a great cook. Her pancakes were beloved and the best in town. Her kitchen was often filled with the comforting scents of family meals and fresh coffee.
She cherished her time spent reading, gardening, cooking, crocheting, and enjoying a good cup of coffee.
Angeline was preceded in death by her mother, Cecilia Colombe; her father, Lawrence Colombe; her stepfather, Walter Colombe; her brother, Lawrence “Duffy” Colombe; and her sisters Mary Nelson, Kathryn Sauvola, Eleanor Sauvola, Rita O’Connell, and Ann Heckel.
She is survived by her husband, Melvyn Lyttinen; her brothers, William Colombe, Richard (MaryEllen) Colombe, and John Colombe; her sisters, Dorothy Aho, Genevieve Kyro, and Pauline Pietila; her sister-in-law, Laverne Martila; her children, Lance Lyttinen, Nicole Lyttinen, Melanie (Joshua) Ong, and Laren Lyttinen; her grandchildren, Isaac and Isabella Ong; her great-granddaughter, Liliana Morales; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Angeline will be deeply missed by all who loved her. Her goodwill, warmth, and devotion to her family and friends will always be remembered.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Angeline will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church of Chassell with Fr. Ben Hasse to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Elo Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2025, from 1-3 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Chassell Chapel, where a parish prayer service will be held at 2:30 p.m.
