Dorothy Richetta

Aug. 11, 1938 - Oct. 22, 2025

Dorothy Richetta passed away peacefully on Oct. 22 at Aspirus hospital with her sister and some members of the parish at her side.

She was born at Laurium Memorial hospital on Aug. 11, 1938, to Dominic and Anna (Rabuze) Richetta, graduated from Sacred Heart school in June 1958, and loved cheerleading and watching basketball.

Shortly after graduation she left for Adrian, Michigan, where she entered the Dominican Order and was ordained in 1963. She received her teaching degree and taught in several Catholic schools in Chicago and Munising. She returned home after 10 years.

She then taught first grade at Calumet public school for over 30 years. She loved her years in the classroom and teaching the children. She was fun, loving, generous, and she simply loved life.

She had many hobbies, but a favorite she loved was playing pinochle on Monday with her group.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dominic and Anna Richetta; and brother-in-law, Henry Ilenich.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Ilenich; niece, Karen Cimaglia; nephew, Michael Ilenich; and several grand nieces and nephews.

Mary would like to thank the ICU doctor and nurse for their compassion and care during Dorothy’s final days.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place for Dorothy on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025. She was laid to rest in Lake View Cemetery.
