HANCOCK — Janice Fay Peterson, 98, a long time resident of Hancock, passed away on Monday, Nov. 3, 2025, at Canal View – Houghton County.
Janice was born on Oct. 2, 1927, in Ripley to the late William and Fay (McPail) Marlor, later graduating from Hancock High School in 1946.
She was a wife and homemaker in her home, raising two children, Gordon and Kathy Dodge. Later in her life, she married Gordon E. Peterson on Nov. 5, 1980. He preceded her in death on April 21, 1993. Janice was employed as a switchboard operator and receptionist at Suomi College until her retirement.
Janice was an active, life member and oldest member of the First United Methodist Church of Hancock where she belonged to Ruth Circle of the United Methodist Women. She also belonged to the Kernewek Cornish Society locally. She was also an active supporter of Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly in Hancock.
Besides her parents and husband, Gordon; she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy; and brother, Glenn Marlor.
She is survived by her son Gordon Dodge at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette; a step-daughter, Dawn; granddaughter, Ariel; other relatives, and by nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Taegyu Shin to officiate. Spring interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock. Friends may call at the church for an hour before services.
