Jerome Kangas

He was born on Jan. 25, 1944, in Hancock, a son of the late William and Phoebe (Hoitola) Kangas. Jerome was raised in Paavola and attended the Hancock Schools.

Jerome was a veteran, having served with the United States Army. After his service, he worked for various construction companies and retired with the Laborers Union Local No. 1329.

On Jan. 30, 1965, he was united in marriage to Shirley Frantila at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. The couple resided in Paavola where they raised their four daughters.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Shirley Kangas; daughters, Barbra Ellenich and her children, Kyle, Kevin, and Kollin, Brenda (Dave) Meyers, and their children, Dylan, and Logan, Rhonda (Eddy Maki) Kangas and her children, Brooke (Johnny) and Travis, and Renee (Jake Gerzetich) Arceci and her children, Dominic Arceci,

Brielle Arceci, Carter Gerzetich, Jaden Gerzetich and Tristen Gerzetich; his great grandchildren, Ryder, Bentley, Hunter and Sawyer; his brother, Richard (Josephine) Kangas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding him in death are his parents, William and Phoebe Kangas; his son-in-law, Aaron Arceci; and his brothers-in-law, Kenneth Frantila, and Stanley Frantila.

A private service for Jerome will be held at a later date this spring with burial in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock.
