Lawrence Kahkonen

He was born on Aug. 2, 1941, in Pequaming, Michigan, to Waino and Marie (Brunet) Kahkonen. Larry grew up with a strong work ethic and a love for hunting and fishing that followed him throughout his life.

Larry was an entrepreneur and creative fabricator who could make anything he needed. He worked for Pettibone as a welder and later he owned and operated Kahkonen Excavating and Kahkonen Construction. He was successful in starting several businesses throughout his lifetime and he loved to work.

He is survived by his children, Tracy (Lyle) Kahkonen-Olsen, Terrence (Suzanne) Kahkonen, and Pauline “Polly” (Brady) Schaefer; his grandchildren, Terrance Cranford, Rachel Lamson, Annie Fish, Ashtin Salli, Keegin Kahkonen, Kamrin Kahkonen, Eli Schafer, and Milo Schafer; along with eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Kathy Daust and Barbara Boyer.  

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Dorothy Coyne; his brother, Karl Kahkonen; and his brothers-in-law, Tony Boyer and Pat Daust.

Larry had a free spirit. He lived life on his own terms and left a lasting impression with everyone he met!
