Thomas Laurie

Thomas “Suds” Laurie, of Ahmeek, passed away on Nov. 15, 2025, at the Omega House in Houghton. He was born on April 1, 1952, in Laurium to parents Theodore and Mabel (Harry) Laurie.
Thomas graduated from Calumet High School. He also went to meat cutting school in Marquette.
He met the love of his life, Susan Biekkola, and they were married on Aug. 10, 1974.
Thomas worked as a butcher and carpenter until his retirement. He was co-owner of Slim’s Café with his wife, sister Alecia Gariepy and her husband Jim for 20 years.
He loved to hunt with his dad and brothers, go bowling, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, play horseshoes, cribbage, and spend time with his wife, daughter, grandkids, and friends and family.
Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Mabel; his wife, Susan; sister, Donna; and brother-in-law, Nordy Nordstrom; brothers, Derrill (Jean) Laurie and Scott Laurie; an infant son; an infant daughter, Sarah Ann; in-laws, George and Marge Biekkola; brother-in-law, Richard Biekkola; and three nephews, Jeremy Nordstrom, Joel and Jason Tuorineimi.
He is survived by his daughter, Cristy Laurie; four sisters-in-law, Mary Beth Biekkola (Sal), Jill (Davey) Ritchie, Peggy Biekkola, and Nancy (Kevin) Wegner; four sisters, Bonnie “Deetie” Tuoriniemi (Dave Shannon), Alecia (Jim) Gariepy, Robyn Matthews, and Jean Laurie; two brothers, Ron “Ace” (Cheryl) Laurie and Kevin Laurie; six grandchildren, BryAnna Melton (Dave Sirvio), Jasmin Melton (Cameron Bunk), Nick Crouch (Breigh Lawrence), Rebecca Crouch (Teal Wakeham), James Crouch, and Hanna Wescott (Wayne Marjomaki); three great granddaughters, Adalida, Nyla, and Hazel; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held for Thomas on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet. There will be a visitation prior to the service from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Following the funeral service, there will be a Celebration of Life in the Siskiwit Reception Hall next to the funeral home with a potluck style luncheon.
