LAKE LINDEN — Charles Scott Peyser, age 35, of Bootjack, passed away at Aspirus-Saint Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota, on Dec. 20, 2025, after a long struggle with alcoholism.

Charlie was born on Feb. 16, 1990, in Los Gatos, California, a son of Kim and Valri (Hoyem) Peyser. He graduated from Scotts Valley High School in Scotts Valley, California. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.

Charles Scott Peyser honorably served in the United States Navy from August 2008 until March 2021, retiring at the rank of Chief Petty Officer (E-7). During more than 12 years of dedicated service, he specialized in advanced engineering and propulsion systems and was assigned to multiple sea and shore commands supporting fleet operations.

Chief Peyser completed over seven years of sea service and deployed overseas in support of global operations, earning numerous awards including five Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, two Meritorious Unit Commendations, four Good Conduct Medals, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, and the Enlisted Surface Warfare Insignia.

He was widely respected for his technical expertise, leadership, and commitment to mission readiness and the Sailors he served alongside. Charles was honorably retired due to service-connected disability, concluding a distinguished naval career marked by exceptional professionalism and devotion to duty.

Charlie enjoyed time spent with family, especially, his three brothers. He liked hunting, fishing, and time spent in Bootjack. He loved his dog and the Navy.

He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and mischievous fun.

Charlie was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gordon Hoyem, whom he was especially close with and loved very much; along with his grandmother, Charlotte; and grandparents, Harry and Gloria Peyser.

He is survived by: parents, Kim and Valri Peyser; brothers, Chris, Joseph (Katelyn), and Doug (Dallas); nephew, Henry Peyser; and many other relatives and friends.

The family is very grateful for the help and kindness of Bootjack Fire and Rescue.

The memorial service is planned for the summer of 2026. The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.
