Douglas Kenneth Kuru, a former resident of Houghton and Lake Linden, passed away peacefully on Dec. 2, 2025, at Comfort Care in Bay City, Michigan.

He was born on April 1, 1947, to Kenneth and Dorothy (Seppala) Kuru, in Hancock. Doug spent his childhood years in Boston Location and moved to the farm on the Rauhala Road in his early teens.

He attended the E.B. Holman School and Houghton High School. At the age of 12, he developed his life-long passion for cars that included driving them, repairing them, restoring them and in later years simply tinkering and enjoying them.  He was employed by Cohodas-Paoli Company until their closure and then worked for the Lake Linden-Hubbell Schools as a custodian and bus driver until his retirement.

He also enjoyed riding his Harley with the L.L. “gang,” and spending time at the deer camp in the Huron Mountains and later in Jacobsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Jim, Dave and Richard.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janet (Hodges); daughter, Connie Kuru (Joe Shortell); son, Bill (Ashley) Kuru; and his grandchildren, Chloe and Carson Howell and Bill Kuru II. He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara Snobel (John), Glenda Julio, and Darline Kuru; and many special nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Memory Care and Compassus Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of Doug during the past nine months. No formal services are planned.

The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be shared at pearcefuneralhome.com.
