Alfred E. Britz
LIMINGA — Alfred E. Britz, 77, a resident of Liminga, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the UP Health System – Portage Hospital following
a lengthy illness. He was born on December 25, 1948, in Hancock, a son of the late William and Flora (Erickson) Britz. Alfred was raised outside of
Houghton and was a graduate of Houghton High with the class of 1968.
Mr. Britz was a veteran, having enlisted with the United States Navy. Following the Navy, Alfred worked at the White Pine Copper Mine before
beginning a career working for Kirkish Furniture, retiring as the Warehouse Manager. Mr. Britz had also worked several other part-time jobs over the years, such as at Clark’s Gas Station and helping transport cars for Carp’s Auto. On April 1, 1980, he was united in marriage to the former Susan Seely. The couple had made their home in Liminga. On November 1, 2020, Susan preceded Alfred in death.
Mr. Britz was an active member of the Hurontown Fire Department, formerly serving as an assistant Chief for 20 years. He enjoyed time outdoors hunting and was an avid Green Bay Packer and Detroit Red Wings fan.
Preceding him death were his wife Susan, his son Mark, his parents, his brother Butch Britz, his brothers-in-law: Alvin Wakeham, Charlie Turuc, and his sister-in-law, Carolyn Britz.
Surviving are: His children: Kimberly (Steve Debo) Britz , John (Tammy) Britz, Rodney Britz ; His grandchildren: Christopher, Callie, Brianna (Brad), Colton,
Kyle, and Skylar ; His great grandchildren: Dawn, John, and Walker . His siblings: JoAnn (Jim) Perndergast, Barbara Britz ,Beatrice Turuc , Dorothy Wakeham William Britz , Mary (Gary) Peter . His sisters-in-law: Vickki (Tom) Timple , Patty (Rob) Green. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A prayer service for Alfred will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday January 10, 2026, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Hancock Chapel with Fr. Ben Hasse to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call on Saturday January 10, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Services – Hancock Chapel.
